I had a Holley 800 DP on craigslist for $150 and I sold it to Brett Dies in Davenport IA, $130 was the least I would take and I would not pay for shipping or meet him 1/2 way, however I did have a saleslady coming to visit me and she lives right by Davenport so I asked if she would take it and call him, he would pick it up from her. She said "Cash only right?" I said of course. Well she thought I was joking, she thought he was a friend and took a check. It bounced. I started calling Brett and he texted me that he would send me a money order, that was 2 weeks ago, he wont answer my calls or text. Last night I called him from my wifes cell phone and he called it back to see who it was. He was kinda shocked to see it was me and said he had sent a money order and would call me back with the tracking #. Well that was 24 hours ago and he still wont answer my calls.
I know im out the $130 plus the $8 for the bounced check, but
WHAT WOULD YOU DO?
He does advertise cars for sale on craigslist, im thinking maybe a test drive?
Thanks,
Jeffrey

Wait until he advertises a car with a Holley 800 DP and take it for a test drive and repo your carb...

ive been shafted for alot more money. I just learn to let shit like that go. Next time dont trust the sales lady. Cant be mad at anyone but yourself for not taking the cash in hand before giving the carb up. Ive learned that the hard way.

Call the Davenport police and file a theft report. If they dont want to bother with it, call the District Attorney for the county Davenport is in.

Being out of state I am not sure but In Illinois you could have him charged with deceptive pratices and take him to small claims court and get up to 3 times the amount of check plus any costs/fees.
Don't pick a fight with an old man. If he is too old to fight, he'll just kill you.

My less professional advise would be pay $9.95 to get the address were the cell phone is registered and go get your carb back. After you do that find his insuranse card in his car should have the per occurance deductable on it. find a cheap motel to stay at and go back everynight for a week and do just enough damage to his car that you dont exceed his deductable. While you are board and waiting for it to get dark you could call 10, electricians, plumbers, alarm companies and so on and make appointments at his address for quotes on some work at the same time. Then go get you some of that marijuana scented hippe oil and splah it around his house and car and report alot of traffic the smell of pot.I could go on but I have to get some work done.

This is the worst advice I've ever seen.

To the OP, I don't know you but hate to see honest people shafted. I'll take up a spot in the back seat on that "test drive".

Thanks Bitter, I know I have not posted on here much, but I have bought 2 cars here and sold a fuel cell to John at Minekie. And its not about the money, I have given away a lot more then $130 worth of parts to younger guys just starting out. The sales lady feels really bad, I talked to her today and she had told the guy cash only but said he looked honest and told her he had just talked to me and I said a check would be ok.

Thanks for all the advice,
Jeffrey

Anyway, I hate to agree to some extent here but I think Freeballers advice to drop it is valid. For me (...and possibly Duke) my time and energy may not be worth $130 given the sitiation. The cost may carry more value by chalking it up as a learning experiance.

Well I finally got paid, seems all I had to do was track down his wife. She had no idea about his other checking account.

Thanks,
Jeffrey
